On Monday, May 12th Robert Rauschenberg died of heart failure at his home in Captiva Island, Florida. He was 82 years old. Since his death, articles and news casts have reflected on the artists life and work and this gave me my own opportunity to consider why this artist has left such an impression on me.

SmartSpaces.org Puts a New Twist on the For Rent Sign in Manhattan

By Nick Kraly
January 14, 2008 at 12:12 PM

Recently mentioned in Condé Nast Portfolio, Smartspaces.org is unlocking two of New York City’s most valuable resources: space and talent. Smartspaces.org is a new organization working to turn empty commercial space into next public gallery — and a place tenants want to be. Artists gain a window to showcase their diverse talents with the eyes of the world’s most influential city upon them. Art grabs the attention of passersby, sparks conversation, and advertises a landlord with vision and smarts.

On a recent trip to Beijing I photographed this billboard just below the Forbidden City. I was impressed with the most-noble goal of brand harmony, but still dubious.

3 Quick Tips for Successful PowerPoint Presentations

By Meghan Still
August 16, 2007 at 3:47 PM

1. Simplify your Content Your message should always be concise and your presentation clear. Streamline your ideas and reference your concepts as simply as possible. Your slides should act as a series of visual cues, giving you an opportunity to expand and elaborate. Your audience should be attentive and engaged; not preoccupied trying to interpret a complicated visual.

2. Avoid Gimmicks Just because PowerPoint offers elaborate backgrounds, flashy transitions, and easy animation doesn’t mean you should use it! Think about your audience, your message, your brand, and the image that... Read More >

A year after the first online order was placed, after surveys, user discussions, and pure trial and error, a new ordering system for the promising startup Health e-Lunch Kids is taking orders. Currently operating exclusively in the Washington Metropolitan Area,... Read More >

We designed the new Beveridge Seay website to show to ourselves, and our customers, that it is possible to achieve a balance of form, function, and overall craftsmanship. At Beveridge Seay we’re engaged everyday in a critical dialogue which examines the new technologies, catchphrases, buzzwords and hype constantly emerging in the internet space. Our website uses new Web 2.0 concepts such as Flickr, amazing open source technology: Ruby on Rails, and most importantly opens up the creation of our website to the entire Beveridge Seay team through the use of... World's Oldest Logo?

By Meghan Still
June 15, 2007 at 5:16 PM

I did a quick search on the world’s oldest logos that are still in use today, and I was surprised to learn that the Red Cross’s logo has been trademarked since 1881. The oldest that I came across? Weltenburger Kloster Barock Dunkel’s, introduced in the year 1050.

London 2012

Upon the unveiling of the London 2012 olympic logo, the Beveridge Seay inboxes have been flooded with articles, commentaries, musings, and profanities. I’ve tried to read through it all, hoping that somewhere along the way my own opinions of the new mark would solidify and I could lay to rest my befuddlement over the whole thing.

One of my favorite articles to surface was one called London Broil whose favoritism of the widely detested logo was a refreshing read. The authors make a strong case on behalf of the... Read More >

Railsconf 2007: Ruby on Rails is Accelerating Rapidly

By Nick Kraly
May 17, 2007 at 4:17 PM

Portland, OR – I went to RailsConf2007 to confirm what I already believed to be true: that Ruby on Rails is accelerating into the mainstream and that designers need to be on board as soon as possible. As expected, it was standing room only in every conference session relating to visual design. The energy in the room really was extraordinary. I couldn’t help but feel actual progress was being made by this group of software activists.
